The word Carioca comes from the “Tupi-Guarani” tribe language, who lived in this area (Rio de Janeiro) before the arrival of the Portuguese (16th century).
It’s also how you call someone who was born in Rio. A carioca will show you Rio like no one else will.
“Cari” means white man (the Portuguese) and “Oca” meant home (the houses the Portuguese built). The union of the two words “Carioca” meant “white men’s home”.
Nowadays to call someone “Carioca” means they were born in Rio. And there’s nothing better than seeing Rio de Janeiro through a “Carioca’s” eyes.
Our professional tour guides and drivers are mainly native from Rio de Janeiro (Cariocas); they also attended the best guide schools available and are ready to provide high quality service.
